I love lyrics to songs so much. I feed on them and toil over them in my own music…One of the reasons I love Joni Mitchell so much is because she creates entire worlds and stories in her songs. Her language is so deliciously descriptive I feel like I've lived lives through her. The quote on this wall is from her tune Carey. I've listened to it thousands of times and I remember the first time I wondered about a "matala moon" I looked it up and thought… one day I will go there!!! And so I did. When we arrived in Matala this was one of the first things we found. Turns out they were pretty stoked on Joni too ?It was incredible to note how the song carries the vibration of that beautiful little hippie beach town. I had been enjoying Matala for years and I didn't even know, no wonder it felt so vividly familiar. We had drinks at the mermaid cafe and played music in the caves with the locals. Met some genuinely incredible humans who have completely mastered the art of living in the present moment. When the moon rose very late in the night I had tiny Kinney girl heart palpitations to feel the same moonbeams that once inspired such an incredible song. I know I have absorbed bits of that magic and have the seeds of new songs blossoming from that same space of creation. I hope some day to inspire travel and discovery with the music I put into the world as well! So… Let's have a round for these freaks and these soldiers A round for these friends of mine!! A round for the bright red devil who keeps me in this tourist town. Matala I will be back ?
